HILLSONG - Let Hope Riseنموونە
Humble Beginnings
“Nobody said, ‘Oh, this is really going to go somewhere!’” –Pastor Brian Houston
On any given night, they can be found ministering to tens of thousands of people in crowded arenas across the globe. Their discography includes multiple chart-topping albums. Over 50 million people sing their songs every weekend in church. Hillsong United is undeniably one of the most successful Christian music groups around today.
In fact, they are the subject of the new feature film HILLSONG-LET HOPE RISE, in theaters nationwide Sept. 16. Capturing the on-stage energy and off-stage hearts of the band, the movie is a new motion-picture genre: the theatrical worship experience.
It will also give moviegoers an appreciation of the journey they’ve been on, one which began in the late ‘90s with a youth band from a local church on the outskirts of Sydney, Australia, and has grown into a worldwide ministry with an impact well beyond music.
While it may be hard to believe that Hillsong United exists because of the faithfulness of the accordion players and less-than-masterful drummers who made up Hillsong Church’s first music team, we should be far from surprised. Time and time again in Scripture, we see that God specializes in using seemingly insignificant people to make a lasting, even generational impact.
It was when they were unqualified nobodies that God chose Moses to lead Israel out of slavery, David to defeat Goliath, and Mary to give birth to the saviour of the world. Jesus himself even compares the spread of the kingdom of God to the growth of the smallest of seeds! As such, we should take Zechariah 4:10 to heart and challenge our view of humble beginnings. After all, if we can be trusted with seeds of potential, we can be trusted with harvests of influence.
Questions
- Why does God choose to do powerful things through insignificant people?
- What dreams with humble beginnings do you have for your life? How are you hoping God will use you?
- How do we stay faithful to our God-dreams when we don’t seem to see any progress?
Prayer
Father, I know that you can grow the seeds of potential in my life into a harvest of influence. Please give me eyes to see you at work in my humble beginnings and the grace to flow with what you’re doing in me. Amen.
