Go Build Bridges
Throughout this Bible Plan, you’ve learned about how the Body of Christ is full of differences, and how diversity is what makes us function properly.
Sadly, we don’t always function together as God wants us to. Sometimes jealousy, feelings of superiority, or even forgetfulness can cause some people to be left out, overlooked, or even blatantly mistreated.
Think about the story of the Good Samaritan you read about yesterday. The Samaritan saw a man he was supposed to be enemies with robbed, beaten, and left for dead. Did he use that as an easy chance to stay away, on the other side of the road—to continue to stay on the other side of life? He sure didn’t! The Samaritan saw the injustice of the way the Jewish man was treated, and he built a bridge to cross over through the label of “enemy” and into the realm of friendship.
Watch this video for more on what to do when you see something unfair around you.
Jesus called His followers to love their neighbors as themselves, so be about that! When you do justice, you’re the tangible hands and feet of Jesus in the world. The story of what God is doing is big. It takes all His children to tell it. Make friends that change your perspective. Reunite what has been divided. Cover gaps. And build bridges with justice, because we belong together.
Ask yourself: What’s an unfair way I’ve seen someone treated or spoken about? How would Jesus speak about that person? How can I speak up with the words Jesus would speak the next time I see or hear that kind of injustice?
Challenge yourself: Today, you’ll read Romans 12:4-5 again. Grab some paper and something fun to draw or write with. Write Romans 12:4-5 out in words on the paper. Draw and design around it, using images you think of when you read those verses. Hang it somewhere you’ll see it often. (You can watch the video from Day 1 of this Bible Plan if you’d like to hear it again as a song. Reminder: Day 1’s verse song video uses the NLT version of the Bible.)
Pray: God, thank You for the way You designed each person differently, yet each of us belong. Help me to treat others the way You do. Help me to build bridges to others who are lonely, mistreated, or overlooked. Help me to walk humbly with You, to love mercy, and to do justice in Your name and for Your glory. In Jesus’ name, amen.
