Be a Good Samaritan
Have you ever heard the story of the Good Samaritan? It was a story Jesus told some fancy leaders who thought they could ask Jesus a question He wouldn’t be able to answer well. They asked Him who their neighbor is—after they had quoted to Jesus that the way to eternal life is to love God with everything and to love your neighbor as yourself.
Guess what they couldn’t do: They couldn’t trick Jesus. He had a good answer for them as to who their neighbor is. Watch this video as Pastor Tavares teaches more on this.
So, who is your neighbor? It’s everyone you meet. It’s the person you’re supposed to think of as uncool. It’s the person you’re supposed to view as somehow “worse” than you. It’s the person others are mean to or ignore. You can’t meet someone Jesus doesn’t love. And He wants you to love them, too.
Love your neighbor as yourself.
See.
Stop.
Serve.
Ask yourself: Is there anyone I know who has a need I could help with?
Challenge yourself: Talk to a trusted adult today about anyone who came to mind in today’s “Ask yourself” question. See if they can help you come up with a plan to help the person you thought of, if it’s appropriate to do so.
Pray: God, thank You for helping me to see others who have needs I can help with. Help me to stop and serve when I can. Help me not to worry if it isn’t considered cool or popular to do it. Just help me to love others the way You do, no matter what. In Jesus’ name, amen.
