How Can I Best Lead My Familyنموونە
Love Through Imperfections
Not one of us, as husbands or wives, can say that we always make the right decisions or act the right way. All of us make mistakes; we are all imperfect people. When we as husbands have to lead in making an important decision, we will sometimes make mistakes.
As a husband, I cannot say that every time I had to make a decision I have made the right one. Therefore, I would exhort my wife, and all wives, to understand that we as husbands must do our best, and we are doing our best. My wife is not married to an inerrant man; she knows that, and I know that. I am going to make mistakes. It is then that a wife must trust that God is at work, even in and through her husband’s mistakes, to sanctify both of them. A mistake does not mean that they cease to live out these roles just because the husband is an imperfect example of his particular role. It means we are both learning. She is going to make mistakes too. The same goes on the other side of the equation.
We learn to love each other despite our failures, we learn to be patient with each other, and we learn to trust God. It is unto the Lord that we live these things out. My wife does not submit to me because she thinks she has a perfect husband; she submits to me as unto the Lord. And I do not sacrificially love her because I think I have a perfect wife. I know what God is doing in both of our lives, and I love her for the Lord’s sake.
There is something really amazing about learning to live like this, loving each other through our very own imperfections. The more we do this, the more we love each other for the Lord’s sake, the more we love each other on a personal level. I have never loved my wife more than I love her today. It is not because I am delusional or think that she is inerrant; I know she is not. But she is good. And I think she loves me more today than she did when we got married many years ago, not because she has a perfect husband, but because we have a perfect Savior. As we strive to love Him, we love each other better.
It is really important to remember that even when things do not turn out as planned, we can still love each other through our imperfections.
