How Can I Best Lead My Familyنموونە
Be A Godly Example
We often think about pastoral qualifications and how a man’s home life is emphasized in those qualifications, right? We know how a pastor or elder should behave according to the Bible, how they are to conduct themselves in every aspect of their lives. We hear this statement more often than not: “If a man does not know how to manage his home, how is he going to take care of the church of God?” And we think about it from that angle.
Let’s change our perspective now. There is a new perspective we can bring into this issue, something that we do not often think about: Every man in the church, whether he is ever going to serve as an elder or pastor, ought to be striving to live an elder-qualified life.
One of the qualifications for an elder is that he must have a sound home life. Strive to do the same, and this will make you a good leader.
The same leadership style, areas of emphasis, and character that lead to a solid home life are those which lead to a solid pastoral life. Ask yourself: “Ok, what does a good pastor look like?” Then say: “Well, let me strive to live that out in my home.”
In one of his teachings, the apostle Peter talks to elders. He basically says that we are to lead the church, not lording it over the congregation, but being examples to the flock. Let’s take that home. The husband is the head of the wife; he is to be a leader to his wife; that is true. However, what kind of a leader is a good husband? Certainly, not one who lords it over his wife, but one who strives to be a godly example for her. That is what a godly leader really looks like.
