Embrace the Race: Persevering Through Challenging Times

DAY 19 OF 28

Confess and Repent

What began with Nehemiah crying in repentance for the restoration of Israel was now reflected in the whole Israelite community. The willingness to take time to fast and pray was something that Nehemiah had modeled. Nehemiah was willing to humble himself, repent on behalf of the Israelites, and believe God would restore Israel. Now the whole community was taking part in the same type of prayer and fasting. Sometimes we can wonder why we don't see God moving in more significant ways. Nehemiah understood that to accomplish what God had called him to do he needed to be obedient and faithful in prayer.

Fasting, prayer, and confession come from a position of humility. Through Nehemiah's life, we see that this spiritual response ignited a fire in the nation to rebuild the city walls and return to the Lord. If we want to see change around us, we need first to see change within ourselves. What we see happening publicly in this story first began privately within the life of Nehemiah.

Daily Challenge

What is one thing you would like to see changed within your family, community, or your city? Take time to pray, bringing your request before the Lord.
