The Well-Rounded Business Leader, Part I
I spend a lot of time praying for wisdom for the many work decisions that I need to make. In doing so, I discovered that many verses in the Bible reference wisdom, knowledge, and understanding all in the same passage. This led me to investigate further. How are these concepts the same? How are they different? And collectively, how can they shape me to be a better business leader?
Proverbs 2:6 illustrates how the Spirit has woven all three terms into one passage, "For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding."
These three words have different meanings that build on each other. Understanding comes from learning God’s Word. Knowledge comes from the experiences and skills God provides to us, and wisdom comes from an accumulation of the understanding and knowledge we receive over time.
In this Bible reading plan, we will look more closely at each attribute.
Questions for Reflection:
- Like the legs of a three-legged stool, wisdom, knowledge, and understanding are all needed to make a business leader well-rounded. Do you consider one attribute more important than the others? Why?
- What happens when a business leader gains knowledge without understanding or wisdom?
- Who is responsible for giving us wisdom, knowledge, and understanding, according to Proverbs 2:6?
