Honoring God in Your Home as a Working Mom

DAY 2 OF 4

Maintaining Your Marriage

If you're anything like me, you know work can be exhausting and can take a toll on marriage. As wives, we must do everything to preserve and protect our marriages. Let's be real, here. That can be really hard to do at the end of our workday with the kiddos hanging on our hip all day or the boss nagging us for the next project. Most times, we can feel completely spent. You can't give anything else to anyone. After all, we only have so much energy to give, am I right?

Titus 2:4 reminds us to love our husbands and Ephesians 5:33b commands us to respect them. To maintain your marriage, you must live with intentionality. That means you must wake up determined to love and respect your husband throughout the day. Just like you would plan for your meals throughout the week, you will plan how to love and respect your husband. "So, they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore, what God has joined together, no person is to separate." (Matt. 19:6) Don't let work get in the way of your marriage. Go the extra mile to support and serve your husband.

Some of the ways you can respect and love your husband is to write love notes you can send in his lunch. If your husband works from home, then you can put it under his pillow, so he sees it before bed. You can also tell him how much you appreciate and admire a certain aspect about him. For instance, you can praise him for working hard for the family and you just wanted to let him know how much you appreciate his work and sacrifice. Plan a date night you can have at least once per month. Weekly is the best, but monthly will suffice if your schedules are too tight.

Think of ways you can serve and support him. Will making him breakfast before work be helpful? Does he like massages after a long day's work? Maybe you can make and pack his lunch. There are so many ways to serve and support our husbands. Pray and ask God for more ideas specific to your marriage.

The fruit of your efforts will result in an intentionally maintained, gospel-centered marriage, kids that know you love their father, and obedience to God's word during your busy working season. Let's not become discouraged in doing good, for in due time we will reap, if we do not become weary (Gal. 6:9).
