Honoring God in Your Home as a Working Momنموونە
Modeling the Master
As a working mom, I understand how easy it is to get overwhelmed by trying to do all the things. I gained much peace when I realized I didn't have to do everything. I only had to do what God was calling me to do. This is the example we see from Christ Himself, as His disciples, even though they meant well, tried to have Him do their will and agenda versus God's. James and John wanted to rain fire from heaven upon their enemies (Luk. 9:54). Peter rebuked Jesus and didn't want Him to die on the cross (Matt. 16:20-23). Christ's consistent focus and obedience to His Father's work allowed for the whole world to be saved through His death, burial, and resurrection.
I admit, saving an entire world is a daunting task. Thankfully, God only asks moms to participate in the work of salvation through our marriage, motherhood, ministry at work, and missions, whew!
When we work outside the home, inside the home, or as a stay-at-home mom, the main work God has called us to can often be overlooked, forgotten, or even inadvertently neglected. You know the saying, "The squeaky wheel gets the grease." The dirty clothes on the floor, the sink full of dishes, the presentation due tomorrow, the proposal you need to prepare all vie for our immediate attention. On most days, we start with the tyranny of the urgent dictating what we do, when we do it, and why. The work God calls us to, such as spending time with Him, building a strong gospel-centered marriage, and spending quality time with our children, tends to fall by the wayside in the busyness of our day and due to the demands of our work schedules.
In Mark 1:35, we are reminded that Jesus rose early in the morning while it was still dark to spend time with God and pray. Make a commitment to model Jesus and get up 30 minutes early before your family to get undistracted time with God. With the constant noise and distractions, it's easy for our day to get hijacked from everyone else if we don't take the time first thing in the morning to spend with God and be reminded of His priorities. Go to an undistracted quiet place, clear your mind, share your heart, and ask Him for wisdom on how to do your work without neglecting His. He will lead and guide the way. Your role is to follow and obey.
