The Christ Centered Entrepreneur: A 3-Day Devotional نموونە
We all have told ourselves at least once that “I’ll be happy when . . .”
When my kids were little, it was “I’ll be happy when . . .”
· They sleep through the night
· They go to school
· They get out of school
After I started my business it was “I’ll be happy when . . .”
· I finish my training program
· I get my first paying client
· I can double my prices
Here’s what I’ve discovered: “I’ll be happy when . . .” is a deadly way to live. It hangs our happiness on something that can never fill our hearts. Never.
While we will always, and should always, experience the full range of emotions that come with living in a fallen world all too often, we allow our “I’ll be happy whens” to dictate our level of joy.
For entrepreneurs, that’s a trap we must avoid. The very nature of being in business for ourselves means that there will always be a roller coaster of circumstances ready and eager to dictate how we feel.
We gain a client, and we’re on top of the world. When we lose a client, our emotions plummet, and we wonder why we ever went into business for ourselves. This year we make a profit, but next year is lean.
The temptation is to say, “I’ll be happy when . . . each of those things is over and done.” Thankfully, we don’t have to wait until any of those things happen to experience joy. There’s a better, easier way to live.
In the middle of our messy lives, God speaks this promise to you and to me: “You will make known to me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; In Your right hand there are pleasures forever” (Psalm 16:11).
In God’s presence—which is available right here, right now, in this muddy middle of business—there is fullness of joy. He has and is everything we need to live this day well, embracing it for what it is while drawing from his well of ever-replenishing joy.
Right here. Right now. Today. No matter what else is going on, God’s promise to you stands firm. In his presence is fullness of joy. At his right hand are pleasures forever!
Let’s keep praying for this reality: that our lives and our businesses will be fueled by joy.
