The Christ Centered Entrepreneur: A 3-Day Devotional نموونە
Hurry and worry: the two most common states of today’s entrepreneurs. And for good reason! With no benefits, no retirement, no board of directors, no list of substitutes to step in when we are sick, there’s a lot to worry about.
How can we possibly experience peace in the middle of all this?
Strangely, the answer came to me as I pulled in at the end of a very long line at my local Starbucks. Watching the drivers in front of me, I noticed that some impatiently ordered, thanked the person taking their order, and then worked themselves into an absolute frenzy. They looked pointedly at their watches, tapped the steering wheel, and beeped their horns.
Others in the same line made their request, thanked the person taking their order, and quietly settled in to enjoy the wait.
Nothing any of the drivers did sped up the pace of the line.
Worry and fretting didn’t get the impatient drivers to the front of the line faster. Smiling and singing didn’t slow the patient drivers down. Everyone waited.
Although worry and hurry didn’t change the external circumstances of the drivers, it did change them. The impatient patrons were grumpy, irritated, and downright mean, while the patient drivers were happy and joyful despite the wait.
Here’s the thing. Life as an entrepreneur is one long waiting line.
Into this world of waiting, God says this: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God” (Philippians 4:6) (ESV).
In other words, if something is on your mind, take it to God, put in your request, and then close the conversation with a big confident “Thank you.”
He’s got this.
Philippians 4 (ESV) continues with this promise from verse 7: “And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Life is one long wait, but that’s okay because we can take our requests to God and then confidently give thanks for what he is going to do.
Today, every single time you are tempted to worry, pull up to God’s divine drive-through window, place your request, give a confident thank you, and exchange your worry for peace.
Let’s enjoy this entrepreneurial ride.
