Partial Obedience
Psalm 119:34
Give me understanding that I may obey Your law, and follow it with all my heart.
Joel’s dad bought a new Lego City set for him. He was so happy that he started to assemble and build it by following the instruction book. However, he had so many difficulties on page 4 and he decided to skip it. So, he went to page 5 without doing page 4. Do you think the Lego City will be built properly? I bet there will be some missing parts and it might collapse any time.
Through Jeremiah, God said that He wanted the Israelites to obey Him instead of just giving Him their burnt offerings. Although they gave their burnt offerings and sacrifices, they did not obey the rest of God’s commands. God would not accept their offerings, because to obey is better than the sacrifice itself. They only obeyed God partially. God wanted their full obedience, not just partial.
When God speaks to us and shows us through His Word the way to live and what He wants us to be and do, we must not compromise. We must obey God wholeheartedly.
Prayer
Dear God, I want to trust and obey You wholeheartedly. Forgive me for my partial obedience. Help me, God. Amen.
