Character Practice

DAY 4 OF 6

Practice Honesty With Your Actions

Okay, yesterday you learned about demonstrating character by being honest with what you say. Did you know you can be honest with what you do, too?

Yeah, you can! It’s known as integrity. It’s following through with doing what you said you’d do. It’s doing what’s right—even when no one’s looking.

Joseph from the Bible (not Joseph the father of Jesus, but an earlier Joseph) was a man of great integrity. He was honest with what he said. And he followed through with what was right and how he said he would live even when it was difficult to do.

Watch this video for a great example of Joseph’s integrity.

Joseph walked in integrity. He wouldn’t do what was wrong because he knew God wouldn’t be pleased. Joseph understood that he wasn’t working for people and their approval. He was working for God. That’s one fantastic way to live with integrity. There may be times when no humans are watching, but God always is.

Ask yourself: When nobody’s looking, what do I sometimes try to get away with? In other words, what tempts me to trade my integrity for something in the moment?

Challenge yourself: This week, talk to a trusted adult about your answer to the “Ask yourself” question above. Practicing honesty by sharing what you struggle with is an amazing way to help you live with integrity!

Pray: God, thank You for showing me how to live an honest life of integrity. Help me to be honest with my actions, not just my words. In Jesus’ name, amen.
