More Than a Book

DAY 1 OF 7

The Bible. Maybe you’ve heard a lot about it. Maybe you’ve read some or most of it. Or maybe, it scares you a little bit. What is it all about, anyway?

People have many misconceptions about the Bible and what it’s all about, but in reality, the biggest thing we need to know about the Bible is that it’s God’s word to us. The Bible is the living, breathing, word of God, speaking to us every single day. Multiple different people wrote it, all given the words by God, so we know that it is all true. It’s a collection of 66 books, divided into two main sections - the Old Testament and the New Testament.

The Old Testament begins with God creating the world, then tells the story of the Israelites throughout history until the birth of Jesus. The New Testament picks up with Jesus’ birth and ends with the book of Revelation, which talks about future events that haven’t even happened yet! The Bible contains the entire history of God making things right for people to have a relationship with Him; it’s the story of God and his people - us.

Over the next seven days, we will dive into six key events that happen in the Bible and look at how they relate to the overall story of God’s relationship with his people. Every single story in the Bible points back to one central theme: God loves us, and he wants to do everything he can to be in a relationship with us, as we will see throughout the week.

Challenge: What do you believe about the Bible? Take a minute to write down some words or sentences about how you currently view the Bible. Commit now to reading every day this week. As we read this week, come back to this list and see if you discover more or maybe debunk some of the things you thought were true.
