What does it mean to be kind?
The definition from the Oxford dictionary depicts it in two forms.
Firstly, as the quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate and secondly an act of kindness. How do we obtain this quality?
I believe that pursuing true righteousness and kindness comes from the pursuit of Jesus Christ who demonstrated the ultimate act of kindness. “God shows his love for us in this while we were still sinners, CHRIST DIED FOR US” (Romans 5:8). As we sinners stand redeemed in the finished work of Christ, we are made righteous because of His righteousness.
As we seek first His kingdom through meditating on scripture and in prayer and worship, the character of Christ begins to be reflected in us. The love of Christ flows through us and bears this fruit of the Holy Spirit; kindness. It is important to remember that we are His workmanship created for good works and Christ began this good work in us at salvation and He will complete it.
What does kindness look like in action? The outflowing of Christ’s love in you results in compassion, love, and honour towards our family, friends, co-workers, and perhaps most importantly those who are cold towards us. This is the result of genuine kindness and love poured out from Jesus. I like the way Paul puts it in Romans 12, “Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honour”. As followers of Christ, this is our calling. So let’s seek Christ more so that His loving-kindness may be a fruit that can be borne in us.
Prayer
Lord, thank you for demonstrating the ultimate act of love on the cross by dying for my sins. Now as your child, help me to seek you more so that I may reflect the image of your Son more by showing kindness to those around me. In Jesus’ name, amen.

About this Plan
Fruit Bowl is a 9-week deep dive into the Fruit of the Spirit put together by the Naujavan community. Jesus said, “This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples." Bearing the Fruit of the Spirit is the result of spending quality time with God, allowing Him to shape and form us.” We hope this devotional encourages you to do just that.
