Real Hope: Obedience

DAY 2 OF 5

God's Delight In Obedience

Becoming a parent has taught me many things (and, mind you, I’m still learning new things each day). I love my kids, but sometimes I find it difficult when they are disobedient. I know toddlers do things like rip pages out of books for attention, but it’s rather frustrating, and sometimes I feel like my kids take pleasure in being disobedient.

I’ve also found that it’s given me a new perspective on being a child of God, and how often we as His children stray from His ways. We so often choose to sin, despite knowing that we have been called to a new life of obedience to God and His Word.

As you read through the Old Testament, it’s easy to feel weighed down by the detailed instructions given to the Israelites, but as is said above in 1 Samuel, to obey is better than sacrifice. God knows our hearts, and the reasons behind our actions. While we can often put on a facade to fool others around us, God sees right through that.

It’s also really important to know that God delights in obedience because He is always working for our good. He wants us to walk in His ways because His ways are best. And knowing that, in Jesus, God has completed the sacrifice possible for our salvation, shouldn’t that be all the more reason to live a life of joyful obedience and thanks?

About this Plan

Real Hope: Obedience

So often the word ‘obedience’ doesn’t draw out positive meaning. However, that is just what the Bible tells us it is. In the Bible, obedience is meant to bring freedom and joy. At its essence it is a demonstration of a life lived with God. This plan is intended to challenge our worldly definition of obedience and align our hearts and understanding to the heavenly definition.
