Seek the Things Above
"So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” —2 Corinthians 4:18, NIV
As we seek things above, we also have to contend with the things below, and it is a constant challenge. Daily pressing needs and distractions hinder us from focusing on our unseen God.
As my husband and I travel in the United States and abroad, sharing the gospel through our ministry, Discovering the Jewish Jesus, I am continually seeking to stay in God’s peace while also completing the mundane tasks of keeping our home clean and organized, making meals, doing laundry, and handling the responsibilities of the ministry with their various deadlines. After spending so much time warring in the spirit to get to the airport to travel to the next ministry engagement, I am often exhausted, overwhelmed, and fearful that I have forgotten an important detail. I feel far from perfect in my ability to make everything “perfect”!
But when I settle into my seat on the plane and relinquish all my failures and inadequacies to Jesus, calling on His adequacy and perfection to cover my life, then the miracle begins to occur. Jesus washes away my inadequacies, and the Holy Spirit begins to fill my heart and mind with His hope and vision for my life. As the plane ascends, I get a new perspective. I look down from the window and find that all the hustle and bustle below starts fading away. My vision changes, and I see the beauty of organized, symmetrical streets; green pastures; mountains; and turquoise lakes and rivers. Everything is flowing in sync with the order and beauty of our intelligent Creator.
Above the clouds I find that the sun is still shining and I hear the Holy Spirit say: “Despite yourself—your inadequacies, failures, and frustrations—I am transforming even your darkness into My light and order. The blood of Jesus is sufficient for your inadequacies, and I am completing the good work I have begun in your life.” Beloved, release your inadequacies, failures, and frustrations to Jesus and receive Father God’s view of your life today.
