Uncommen: Don't Call It a Comeback

DAY 3 OF 5

Let's Meet At The River

I love this story in the Bible because of who shows up. It's often overlooked.

First - Jesus: The first to show up was Jesus as John saw him from a distance and said, "Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!"

Second - Holy Spirit: "And when he came up out of the water, immediately he saw the heavens being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove."

Third - God: "And a voice came from heaven, "You are my beloved Son; with you, I am well pleased."

All three of the Godhead showed up at the river. This once again should show us that beyond our perception has always been the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. What I love about this is that it adjusts my view of God. I tend to shrink God down to how I see and experience Him. When, in fact, I need to understand that God is bigger than my perception of Him.

My finite brain only sees and understands God to a point. We tend to forget that God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit extend back through the foundations of the earth and beyond. That concept is hard for a human to absorb, so we also struggle with the proper perspective. An all-powerful, omnipresent, infinite God doesn't always fit in our reality. So to read about the Godhead in this way gives us a window into their relationship.

What I have noticed is when the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit all show up, it's important, and I should take notice.

  • At creation
  • Baptizing of Jesus
  • Transfiguration

Don't Call it a Comeback

We also need to understand that these situations, like the river's meeting, benefit us. Jesus could have paid the sin debt by showing up much closer to the payment on the cross. But he was born and lived a life so that we could relate. God has always been there for you and me.

Uncommen Questions:

Do you think you have the right perspective of God?

What do you think it means when all three parts of the Godhead show up?

Uncommen Challenge:

I challenge you to re-examine your perspective of God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit so you can approach Them with the proper respect.

About this Plan

Uncommen: Don't Call It a Comeback

After the year that we've had in 2020, some may think things are out of control and beyond repair. Which, in fact, is 100% incorrect. The same God who created the heavens and earth is still in control, just as He was in the beginning. Are things going the way we intended? No. Are things going the way God intended? Yes!
