Uncommen: Don't Call It a Comebackنموونە
Funny Things Happen On The Way
Focus verse - "Then Abraham said to his young men, 'Stay here with the donkey; I and the boy will go over there and worship and come again to you.'"
If you are familiar with this story, there is a ton to discuss, but we will focus on the comeback. If you read the story, you know how much trouble Abraham and Sarah had in having a child. That child came to them very late in life, and that child was Isaac.
Abraham and Sarah were so thankful for their newborn son. God asks Abraham to sacrifice Isaac in Genesis 22:2. I can only imagine the next conversation Abraham and Sarah had.
But to Mount Moriah they went, and that takes us to our focus verse. Abraham must have figured God would raise Isaac after the sacrifice or provide an alternate. Isaac says, "I and the boy will go over there and worship and come again to you."
Genesis 22:8 — "Abraham said, 'God will provide for himself the lamb for a burnt offering, my son.' So they went both of them together."
As we progress through the story, we see that God stops Abraham from harming Isaac and provides a Ram. This Ram is symbolic of Jesus. Just as Jesus was born of a virgin, grew into a man, and died on a cross for our sin, He was there before the foundation of the earth. We tend to think of Jesus only in the New Testament, but he was there from the beginning (Genesis 1:26).
Are you on your way to your Mount Moriah? Are you reluctant to take your Isaac to the altar of sacrifice? Maybe our Isaac is something other than a person. Perhaps it's something we cherish like money, job, house, or status. Perhaps we need to take that which we value over God and lay it on the altar and make it known that God is above all in our life.
Don't call it a comeback... While it may have appeared that a Ram just showed up, God had an alternate sacrifice ready the whole time. The real question is... are we on our way to the mountain?
Uncommen Questions:
Have you ever been called to sacrifice something you didn't want to? (Time, money, life, etc.)
Has God provided an alternate sacrifice for you in the form of Jesus?
Uncommen Challenge:
I challenge both you and myself to always trust God and understand that everything is His to use as He pleases.

About this Plan
After the year that we've had in 2020, some may think things are out of control and beyond repair. Which, in fact, is 100% incorrect. The same God who created the heavens and earth is still in control, just as He was in the beginning. Are things going the way we intended? No. Are things going the way God intended? Yes!
