FEAR OF COMPARISON
[Not being good enough]
Swipe, someone just bought a new house. Swipe, your friends just had a new baby. Swipe, someone else just got a pay rise. Swipe, swipe, swipe.
In modern times we are bombarded with people ‘living their best lives.’ Every picture is full of beaming smiles and inspirational captions. If we’re not flicking through Instagram, there’ll be plenty of other situations where we find ourselves comparing our lives to someone else’s.
We can fear that we’re falling behind, underachieving, and think we should be further along in our lives than we are. Our minds fill with a hurricane of negative thoughts, and we worry about being failures. We focus so much on the other lanes on the track, that we forget to run our own race, and we overlook the blessings in our own lives.
We have been uniquely made, to run our own race, and we’ll waste our lives praying to be someone God has not created us to be. Focus on serving His Kingdom from our God-given patch, and He will take care of everything else. Jesus says not to worry about these other things, even if we think everyone around us is moving ahead and we’re standing still.
Worrying never does anyone good. The Creator who looks after all the birds of the air; the One who invented trees and beautiful flowers, designed a path for us and promises to provide for all our needs, when we need them.
Action: Let’s turn off our phones, stay off social media, take a break from screens and take some time to re-focus on our personal journey with God. What does He want us to know about our path, our calling, our dreams and desires at this time?
