Forty Days Without Fear

DAY 18 OF 40

OVERCOMING FEAR OF CONSEQUENCES

The truth will set us free! But what happens when telling the truth results in people getting hurt? Is it not better to keep things to ourselves to prevent potential offence or further heartache?

By telling only part of the truth, or living half-truths, we’re always setting ourselves up for a fall, because Scripture reminds us that everything that is hidden will eventually come to light. As followers of Christ, we are promised that no matter the situation, if we take the path of honesty, the truth will set us free.

No matter how difficult, how exposing, or how heart-breaking it may seem to bring something into the light, we must trust that it will lead to ultimate freedom. Yes, we may have to deal with the consequences of our actions, and speaking the truth may be painful, but bringing things into the light allows God to begin the healing process.

The fear of consequences shouldn’t stop us from telling the truth; everything is redeemable. Even if we feel uncomfortable temporarily, we know that we will find greater freedom through openness and honesty.

Action: Telling the truth is the first step to release, forgiveness, restoration and peace. Is there anything that we need to bring into the light to find greater freedom and peace? Are we holding onto something that is better off confronted and addressed? Pray for strength and boldness to share the truth with wisdom and grace and ask God to provide the right opportunity for that to happen. Act when He answers!
