Everyday Life in Revelation: Part 2 the Church

DAY 6 OF 7

The church in the city of Philadelphia faced many threats and had little power. One of the major threats apparently came from the local Jewish synagogue. By remaining connected to the synagogue, the church had been protected from having to participate in emperor worship. The synagogue evidently expelled their Christian friends and family, putting incredible pressure and challenges upon this church.

The church did not deny Jesus in the wake of these troubles. Jesus promised that He would be with them through their trouble. He would preserve them, preserve their faith, and keep them from the future trials that would come upon the earth to test its inhabitants. Jesus also promised a permanent place in His kingdom for those who persevere through these struggles.

To be sure, we can be confident, knowing that no matter what we have to endure, Christ is with His people. We might lose everything in this world for being true to Jesus, but we will be part of His kingdom forever. Our true and lasting inheritance is in heaven, and it cannot ever be destroyed.

Take time today to reflect on what inheritance can you look forward to in the kingdom of God.
