Everyday Life in Revelation: Part 2 the Churchنموونە
Revelation 2:18-29 speaks to the church in Thyatira. This city was a hub of trade and commerce. There was a false prophet encouraging the church to embrace idolatry. To participate in the economics of the day, one would have to identify with the religion and pagan culture to be accepted. Some commentators think Jesus was challenging the church to remain faithful and pure to His Word, not fall to idolatry in the name of economic prosperity.
Not every believer was falling prey to this teaching; Jesus knew the people who were remaining faithful. This is a huge word for us today. Just as Jesus took note of the faithful back then, He still takes note today.
To be sure, not every act of faithful obedience will yield blessing for us on planet earth. Sometimes as we labor for God and do the right thing, we will pay in costly ways. We may suffer when we are following God’s course for us. Take courage, every act of righteousness you do may not be rewarded today, but God will never forget it. And He will reward it one day!
