Stand Out: Living for Christ in a Corrupt Worldنموونە
Beware of the Little Leaven
5:1-13: In these verses, Apostle Paul addresses the sin of sexual immorality and the Corinthian church’s indifference to it. He commands the church to discipline the man who committed a flagrant sin.
I heard the story of a man in Britain who raised a pet snake. The snake grew stronger and bigger. One day, this eight-foot-long python killed the man who raised it. Sin is also like that. If we entertain sin in our lives, one day it will destroy us.
A person’s sinful behavior within the church is often like leaven. It spreads to other church members too. Church leaders have the important, yet painful responsibility to discipline sin within the body of Christ. On an individual level, every Christian must deal with sin radically when it begins as a little leaven. Otherwise, sin will corrupt our whole being and destroy our spiritual lives.
Prayer: Lord, by your Spirit, help me to kill sin before it kills me.
