DAY 2 OF 3

PRAYER FOR THE NATION

If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land. (2 Chronicles 7:14)

We pray a lot for our needs, problems, and struggles we face every day, but what about praying for our nation? Is it our duty to pray for the nation or is this only meant for people who have a special calling as intercessors?

Seeing the condition of the Israelites who reaped the consequences of their actions, God was waiting for someone to stand up for the nation before Him. God is waiting for a call of prayer from His people. God asked the Israelites to humble themselves, repent, fast, turn, and cry out to Him.

Each of us is called by God to be an intermediary or a liaison between our nation and God. We can read the news through media and see the things that are happening in our country. What do we feel or do when we see bad things or injustices happen or when the people of the country we live in commit something wrong and sinful? Shall we stay still? Do we believe that God can restore everything?

Before asking for repentance and change to occur in our nation, we must first come as the representatives of our nation to confess our mistakes and turn to the Lord. Let us seek God's approval, let us be fair, and act before the Lord and everyone else in love and righteousness. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.

It is not about how long prayer is, but the heart of who is praying.
