This story has elements that both encourage us in our faith and challenge us to do some self-reflecting. Jesus heals ten men of leprosy, effectively saving their lives, but only one man returned to give praise to the one to whom it was due. Why would the other nine men not want to thank the one who lifted their lives out of hopelessness? It isn’t hard to find some answers. They must have been so overjoyed with their new leases on life, and so overwhelmed with things to do that were now possible, that they just forgot about the source of the healing. They received the gift, and they were so eager to use it that they neglected any relationship with the one who gave it to them freely. The challenge for us today is to remind ourselves that the Lord is the source of our hope, joy, peace, grace, and mercy, to list just a few of the blessings present in our lives. Let’s be sure to return to Him with thankfulness, then share the good news of those gifts with others.

About this Plan
Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness again, but will have the light of life.” In this daily Bible reading plan, Illuminate, we study the teachings of Jesus found in the Gospel of Luke chapters 12-17. In these passages of Scripture, Jesus sheds light on the kingdom of God and guides us to live our lives in light of eternity.
