Jesus teaching people about forgiveness is encouraging and challenging all at once. Imagine Babe Ruth giving you hitting instructions on a baseball diamond or Adele walking you through how to hit all the notes in a melody. We could debate whether or not those two individuals are the very best in their field, but we cannot do the same with Jesus and forgiveness. The call to us is clear: if someone who has wronged us repents and asks for forgiveness, we must grant it. It is a simple instruction that can become very complicated, because there are many times when we want people to deserve forgiveness before we let it go. That is a natural instinct, but we should constantly remind ourselves that Jesus did not complicate it for us and we’ll have an eternity to thank Him for His quick and never-ending forgiveness. As we go through this day, let’s not complicate Jesus’ instructions in any area of our lives. When He says forgive, let’s forgive. When He says pray, let’s pray. He’s the best there ever was, so let’s follow His example as best we can.

About this Plan
Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness again, but will have the light of life.” In this daily Bible reading plan, Illuminate, we study the teachings of Jesus found in the Gospel of Luke chapters 12-17. In these passages of Scripture, Jesus sheds light on the kingdom of God and guides us to live our lives in light of eternity.
