Growing up with a huge family has taught me a few things. One being that there is always someone better than you. With six siblings and double the number of cousins, I never (and I mean never) knew where I was supposed to sit. This passage has taught me to always humble myself and take the lowest seat. This typically meant with the babies or the toddlers no one wanted to deal with. At every family event I would get asked to come sit with someone, or to move next to the adults. Whatever the reason, I was moved to a better seat at the table. Not only does it save our pride from being embarrassed because we thought more of ourselves, but it helps show others that the people you least expect to be seated at the head, most of the time will be. This parable helps us learn that we are not in control of our lives and God might have an entirely different plan. So, why not humble yourself and let God put you where you need to be?

About this Plan
Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness again, but will have the light of life.” In this daily Bible reading plan, Illuminate, we study the teachings of Jesus found in the Gospel of Luke chapters 12-17. In these passages of Scripture, Jesus sheds light on the kingdom of God and guides us to live our lives in light of eternity.
