Thanksgiving has always been one of my favorite holidays. All my family from my mother’s side travel from different states to my parents house. They stay for several days and we catch up, reminisce, and eat lots of food. It never fails that every year my parents invite additional people (neighbors, someone from their church, etc.) to our Thanksgiving feast. I hate to admit it, but growing up, this drove me crazy. I looked forward to this time to catch up with my family, and did not want other people to join and upset our tradition. However, each Thanksgiving concludes and I’m always grateful for everyone that God intentionally placed around our table.
These verses remind me that our tables and lives should be open to others, not closed off like an exclusive club. To me, these verses aren’t just talking about financial repayment, but rather pushing us out of comfort zones. Are we willing to move beyond our traditions and routines to open our tables, doors, small groups, etc., to others we wouldn’t consider first?

About this Plan
Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness again, but will have the light of life.” In this daily Bible reading plan, Illuminate, we study the teachings of Jesus found in the Gospel of Luke chapters 12-17. In these passages of Scripture, Jesus sheds light on the kingdom of God and guides us to live our lives in light of eternity.
