Book of Joel

DAY 1 OF 3

THE GREATNESS OF THE LORD

Therefore, consider the goodness and severity of God: on those who fell, severity; but toward you, goodness, if you continue in His goodness. Otherwise, you also will be cut off. (Romans 11:22)

Various praise songs of today tell us about the greatness of God. But where do we see the greatness of God at work? There are many stories about the greatness of God in the books of Genesis and Exodus. The greatness of God is also on display when we look at the heavens.

The greatness of God, however, is not just about seeing His wondrous works. The times when God rebuked His chosen people also showed His greatness. The Apostle Paul wrote in the book of Romans that the Israelites and other nations were warned about the greatness of God that came in the form of His severity to those who refused to believe in Him.

We thank God for giving us the opportunity to receive salvation by His grace. He moves us from darkness into His miraculous light. We don't need to do deeds or work to gain salvation because God did that through Jesus Christ. We are justified because we believe in Jesus Christ.

On the other hand, the Israelites and other nations thought they were justified because of their deeds or their work. The greatness of God in the form of His wrath will befall those who refuse to believe in the sacrifice of Jesus. The call is available to everyone. Let all of us who have become His people guard and maintain a strong faith amid people who are still hardening their hearts.

Which god is like our God? None!
