The Third Person

DAY 3 OF 5

The One Who Empowers Us

When we accept Jesus as our Lord and Saviour and put our faith and trust in Him, we are given a brand new start. The Bible refers to this as being born again. We are forgiven of our sin because of Jesus’ sacrifice for us on the cross, where he died the death we deserved and purchased our freedom from slavery to sin. Now we are restored into relationship with our Heavenly Father. This is called salvation. We are saved from sin and its consequences and, by grace, we are given a new beginning.

The Holy Spirit is at work in our salvation. It is His power at work that opens our hearts and minds to the good news of the Gospel and to see the wonderful grace and love displayed towards us by God through Christ. This work of the Holy Spirit is often called regeneration

Regeneration is a momentary act, bringing a person from spiritual death to life. It is exclusively the Holy Spirit’s work and it is an amazing act of grace from God towards us.

However, the Holy Spirit’s work doesn’t stop at regeneration—bringing us from spiritual death to life—rather, it continues on in the life of every believer.

The Holy Spirit is the one who empowers us to live effective lives, bringing God’s kingdom here to earth and impacting the world around us. It is the Holy Spirit who empowers and enables us to make a difference.

This is accomplished through the gifts given to us by the Holy Spirit. The Bible tells us that every believer is given unique gifts by the Holy Spirit and is empowered to use these gifts. There are spiritual gifts that the Holy Spirit gives in addition to our natural talents and abilities. As Christians, we must see all of these as gifts given to us so we can utilise our opportunities to impact the world for God’s glory.

Take some time to reflect on the gifts you have. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal the gifts He has given to you and ask Him to help you use those gifts to build the kingdom of God.
