There's Hope For Today

DAY 21 OF 366

What do you do when you’ve lost your way; when your integrity is blown; your security is breached?

Where do you go when your homestead has become hostile and your welcome has been rescinded?

These questions haunted Jacob at Shechem. Almost every bend in Jacob’s road had been marked with deceit. He learned the con early in life and played it well. Now the con man was getting old and mending his ways, but his sons had learned deceit from the old master and coupled it with wanton violence. By the hands of Jacob’s sons, a city lay in slaughter and Jacob felt the cold hand of fear grip his heart. Surely the Canaanites would rise up and avenge the massacre at Shechem. In his despair God whispered in Jacob’s ear, “Go to Bethel.” So Jacob journeyed back to the place where he had once met with God; where he had once received a heavenly vision; where he had first known the security of the covenant. Jacob returned to Bethel and made an altar there.

What do you do when you’ve stumbled and fallen? Get back to the place where your faith was strong. On your knees build an altar … and dwell there.
