Ephesians: How to Love Like Jesusنموونە
Devotional:
Before Jesus, there was a great separation from God as only Israelites were able to share in the promises and hope that He brought. But with His death on the cross, Jesus broke the dividing wall and allowed everyone to join God’s family. We are brought near to God by the blood of Jesus. Paul uses the metaphor of a house being built, as we come together as God’s people, centred around Jesus Christ, the chief cornerstone. By focusing on Jesus and building our community to look like Him, we can join as members of God’s household.
Questions:
- This passage speaks about Jesus being our ‘peace,’ reconciling Israelites and Gentiles together and giving all people access to the Father. How is your understanding of Christ’s death on the cross impacted by the knowledge that His sacrifice made you part of God’s family?
- Verse 12 calls us to remember the time that we were separated from Jesus. Spend some time reflecting on God’s impact — the change He has had in your life from the time you were separated from Jesus to the time you have spent following Him. Where has He worked in your life?
- Verse 17 speaks about Jesus as He “came and preached peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near.” Jesus reached out to those who were close to God, but also those who were far away from him. Who can you reach out to and share God’s love with today?
Prayer:
Gracious Lord, I was once separated from You by my sins, but Your love and grace have changed me. Help me to live according to Your will and to follow Your example as I share Your love with those who don’t yet know You. Amen.
