Serving God or Doing God a Service

This quote from my devotional this morning is powerful:

“Once God has placed a calling on your life – something you know without a shadow of a doubt that He wants you to do, a task that you were specially created to complete – keep your eyes on Him and not that thing.” David Ramos (emphasis added)

How many times do we think we’re serving God by doing a service for Him? We choose a ministry and pour ourselves into it—as a service to God, like we’re doing Him a favor. Like a cat bringing a dead mouse and leaving it on the mat as a gift for our master. 

Just because He has created us for such a time as this; because He has given us talents, time, and treasure to use for His purposes; because He has called us to a specific vocation or ministry… we think we have to do it all in our own strength in order to please God. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Our King is not a king who sends his people on a quest to prove their fealty to him.

Our King goes with us; Jesus is “God with us.” We make plans; He directs our steps.
