"COACHELLA"
Every year 250,000 people flood the Colorado desert of California for Coachella. This three-day festival showcases the best up-and-coming as well as established acts in almost every genre of music.
If you are an artist trying to make it, earning your way onto a Coachella stage is like punching a ticket to becoming made in the music industry. Getting there is one thing, but being endorsed by the crowds is what compels the organizers to ask you there in the first place.
Bottom line: you don’t belong on one of those stages unless you’ve worked your way to be considered good enough.
Imagine for a moment a crazy idea. Imagine that getting into a right-standing relationship with God worked like Coachella. Imagine spending your life trying to work hard enough to get that seal of approval from God, like getting on one of those stages. Imagine Heaven only being open to those who worked hard enough to be considered good enough.
Crazy right?
Except that is what many people believe they need to do in order get on God’s good side or have His seal of approval. Work hard, be good, and hope for the best.
Except that doesn’t work out. We aren’t good enough. We try hard in so many circumstances and just mess up.
I have good news. God doesn’t work like Coachella. We don’t have to wait to see if we are good enough to get into Heaven or on good terms with Him. God alone makes us good, and we don’t earn His approval through hard work or by chance.
He gives it to us through what Jesus did on the cross. When you have a relationship with Jesus, your circumstances may change, but your standing with God stays the same.
God’s been way too good to us, and not because we earned it. It’s because He loves us.
