Minors With Major Impact - #Life

DAY 1 OF 5

Generations

In life, there are different stages and phases. Through this devotional series, we will cover the various phases that people go through in their lives, such as: student, marriage, parenting, mid-life, and empty-nester.

The students of today’s times are called Gen Z. They are those members of the population that are between 10 years old and 25 years old. According to research, by 2020, one quarter of the American population will be this generation. That is twenty-five percent. Gen Z is recession marked because they have grown up during the war on terror and recession. They are independent and very entrepreneurial-minded. They want to start things and not just work for somebody. They are impact-oriented. Sure, they also are WiFi-enabled because they have had internet in their pocket for as long as they can remember, and because of this they have an attention span of eight seconds! Nonetheless, they are a generation who wants to impact the world.

Gen Z is a post-Christian generation. It is actually the first post-Christian generation in the history of the United States. What this means is that most of us have grown up in a Christian culture and nation. Yet most of these students will find themselves saying, “Yes, my grandmother and parents went to church, but it’s not really for me.” Fifty-nine percent do not attend church weekly. The ratio of former Christians to people coming to Christ currently is four to one. People are leaving the faith four times for every one person that comes in. It is a post-Christian generation.

The great news is that Gen Z is actually very open to faith. Statistics have shown that 78% of older Gen Z say they believe in God and view religious leaders as better role models than celebrities, professional athletes, or political leaders.

As we start this devotional, whether you are a student, leader, parent, or close to one of this generation, I want us to pray believing that this generation is going to impact the world with a heart for Jesus. We understand that this generation has so much coming against them, but older generations can have a place in their lives to bless them.

“Thank you Lord for loving us so much. You love us regardless of what generation we come from. We ask that you touch the hearts of Gen Z. That through your children, they will know you more. May they learn to love and follow you so that the impact they make in this world will always be for your glory. We bless Gen Z in your name. Amen.”
