Drawing Closer

DAY 29 OF 40

The Holy Spirit | The Holy Spirit Prays

Would you like it if you had someone praying God’s will for your life? The good news is that you do! You actually have someone in you who knows God’s will intimately and is praying for you. The Bible says that the Holy Spirit prays for you and through you.

The Bible clearly speaks about praying in (or with) the spirit, which is often referred to as praying in tongues. Whether you pray using words you know or with words you don’t know (tongues), the Holy Spirit prays through you. Both types of prayer are scriptural, and both are beneficial. Whether you’re praying with your understanding or in the spirit, the Holy Spirit wants to help you pray.

The apostle Paul, who wrote almost half the New Testament, received incredible wisdom and revelation from God. The Bible says he prayed in tongues more than anyone else. Consider how much more effective you can be if you not only pray using your own words, but also pray using words given to you from the Holy Spirit.

Praying in the spirit strengthens, edifies and builds you up. It helps you resist temptation and stay strong in your relationship with God. It’s part of putting on the whole armor of God. You should do it when you’re in the shower, cleaning the house or driving down the road. You need to do it when you awake in the morning and as you lie down at night.

You have to make the choice as to whether or not you will pray in the spirit. God is not going to force you to do it. Don’t be nervous or afraid about praying in the spirit. It is a part of the armor God’s given to you for your benefit and growth. Yield your tongue to God today and let the Holy Spirit pray through you. Are you ready to begin letting the Holy Spirit pray through you?

Memory Verse

In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. Romans 8:26 (NIV)
