The Holy Spirit
“In the beginning…the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.” He has been in existence from the beginning. The Holy Spirit is the person of God in Spirit form.
Oftentimes, people refer to the Holy Spirit as “it.” However, this is a false description because the Holy Spirit is God. In John 14:26, Jesus refers to the Holy Spirit as a person as He says, “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.”
Acts 5:3-4 is another place in the Bible that indicates that the Holy Spirit is God. In this passage, Peter, one of Jesus’ disciples, confronts a man named Ananias, who had lied. Peter told Ananias, “Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit…You have not lied to man, but God.” Here, Peter is confirming the Holy Spirit is God.
Recently, we have discussed the idea that God is omnipresent or that God is everywhere. (See Psalm 139:7-12) It is through His Holy Spirit that God can be everywhere. Just as we read that the Holy Spirit was hovering over the Earth before there was even land, so He is hovering over all the earth today. God, the Holy Spirit, is where you are right now.
If you have received God’s gift of salvation and have become a child of God, then His Holy Spirit lives in you!!!
Because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying, "Abba! Father!" Gal. 4:6
This is HUGE!! The God who created and holds together the universe, lives inside of us by His Spirit!!!
In the upcoming devotions, we will learn more about the Holy Spirit. Today, we want you to understand, that the Holy Spirit is God. He is everywhere. And He lives in the hearts of each one of His children!
Prayer:
Holy Spirit, I believe You are God in Spirit form! You are so complex and I am unable to fully understand You! But I thank You that You are good and holy. Thank You for the privilege of getting to know You! I ask that You make me more aware of Your Holy Spirit in and around me today. I want to know and experience You more! In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
