Growing in Hope

DAY 22 OF 43

The Holy Spirit Inspires

In 1st Peter 1:21, Peter is teaching us that the Bible is God’s word. While God did not physically write the Bible Himself, He did inspire men to write it for Him. Peter writes, “men moved by the Holy Spirit” wrote the word of God. In the Old Testament, the writers referred to their writings as the words of God over 3800 times.

There will always be some who challenge and claim the Bible is not the inspired word of God. However, people’s doubts and questions do not discredit the Bible. The Bible itself has stood for thousands of years. It has been translated into hundreds of languages and is the bestselling book of all time.

Just like we are required to put our faith in Jesus, we must know that God’s word is true. The more you read the Bible, the more you will come to understand its truths. The Bible is often referred to as the “Living Bible.” Over time, you will notice that oftentimes the Bible will speak directly to your current circumstances. It is alive. Hebrews 4:12 reads, “For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”

The Apostle Paul told Timothy, “All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17

Paul’s statement is not only confirming Peter’s claim that the Bible is inspired by God, but also that it is beneficial for you to use as an owner’s manual for your life. If God were sitting in the room with you right now, He would not tell you anything any different than what the Bible teaches. He knew when He wrote it exactly what you would need today.

If you are going to live the life God has called you to live, you must read the manual God gave you; His word, the Bible. Today, I challenge you to commit to reading your Bible everyday. Read it before you do anything else. Plant God’s words in your heart and you will have them when you need them most.

Prayer:
Father, I thank You that You have given us Your word. Enable me by the Holy Spirit to be a good student of the Bible. I want to be a person who knows what Truth is; I want to live my life according to what You say! Thank you for Your love. Please cleanse me of all my sins. Thank You for your forgiveness and Your grace each day! In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
