Faith for Open Doorsنموونە
Have Ambition
For 13 years I worked full-time as a DJ and Promotions Director at a Christian Radio station. One day, I prayed for the Lord to show me what more He had for me. God surprised me and nudged me to resign from my position. To step away from the financial security and to pursue my ambition to write full-time was scary, to say the least.
Soon after I took this step of faith, I was overcome with a huge boatload of doubt. I believed the lie that I misheard God. I felt powerless to take any step of faith. Fear and lethargy had a grip on me. One Sunday, I heard a message on the brave story of Peter stepping out of the boat and walking on water. Hearing it again moved me think about Peter’s rock solid faith and how his courage overcame his fear.
As a public personality, I carried on strong (both professionally and personally) like my secret desires of writing were insignificant. So transitioning to the next step felt overwhelming and daunting. Many times I cheered others on as they went first, yet I lacked the courage to follow suit. I shrunk back in fear and doubt. I believed I wasn’t equipped to write a book because I wasn’t proficient in grammar or proper English. The message gave me a push of God-confidence to begin and put my thoughts down on paper. I put myself in the same boat as the “13th disciple”. I stepped out and moved towards the next chapter of my life, just the way I was.
God doesn’t need your abilities, He desires your availability.
He has plans for your life in ways you can’t see until you step out of your own boat and trust Him. Peace often comes on the other side of obedience. Now, I’m not saying you should quit your day job. But God has greater plans based on your willingness to be open and vulnerable to Him. Rest assured, from God’s perspective, He never disqualifies the called, He equips them. Put your faith in action, and He will bless your faithfulness with fruitfulness. Believe the ideas in your heart, after all God put them there. And you’ll receive His power to do it!
