Book of Joshua

DAY 8 OF 12

A PURE HEART

The decision to follow Jesus Christ has to be accompanied with willingness and total surrender to be guided by the Word of God. Joshua reminded us that the first step to take in following Jesus is to remove the foreign Gods from our life. The word “foreign gods” not only refers to idols but it also can refer to any sort of activity that causes us to love other things more than God.

The God we worship is a jealous God (Exodus 20:1-5, Deuteronomy 31:16-21). The one who worships other gods is like a prostitute. The act of worship anything above God is considered as the act of fornication (Ezekiel 16). Without holiness, no one can come nearer to God.

The heart of man reflects the character of man (Proverbs 27:19).  Our heart can be more deceitful above everything else, and desperately wicked (Jeremiah 17:9). That’s why Apostle Paul is always trying to live his life with a clear conscience before God and man.

In order to have a clear conscience we need to incline and direct our heart to focus only on God. Then we will keep God’s promises in our heart, and this will hinder us from sins (Psalm 119:11). We also need to guard our heart with all diligence, because out of it spring the issues of life.(Proverbs 4:23).

God inhabits the person whose heart is clean and pure.
