Day 18 – No more excuses
Reflect
A banquet, in the time of Christ, meant a large-scale event with no expenses spared, staged over three or four days. To be invited to such an event was a great honour and likewise, it was advantageous to have guests of high social standing attend. These prominent guests had apparently RSVP’d. Still, when the announcement came that "everything is now ready”, many made last-minute excuses, much to the offence of the host.
The Lord has prepared the way of salvation for all of mankind, yet so many find excuses as to why they cannot come. "Not yet", “no need”, "someday when ..." and so forth. Some have heard the gospel multiple times while others are yet to hear it even once.
Respond
Lord, You said: “So that my house will be full.” Not everyone responds right away as I might hope, but I know that there are others who are just waiting to be asked. Help me to do as the servant did: go out and compel them all - not just a select few - to come in. This I do for your glory, honour and praise.
