Devotional with Mark Harris
In literary terms, perspective is considered a tool that serves as a lens through which readers observe characters, events, and happenings. When it comes to how we view the circumstances of our everyday lives, perspective is crucial. We can lose heart if we look through the wrong lens.
As a young kid, I loved baseball. I wasn’t a natural athlete, but I was passionate about learning how to pitch. I could throw the ball hard and far, but who knew where it was going to land. I remember coming home from practice one day and telling my dad that I wanted to quit because I didn’t think I would ever be good enough. I’ll never forget what my dad said. He told me that even if I were to give up on me, he would never give up on me. He saw my potential because he was looking through a different lens—a father’s lens! He didn’t see me as I was but as all I could be. He did let me know, though, that if I quit, there was no way he could help me. I had to do my part!
Knowing that my dad believed in me and saw my potential was all it took to encourage me to keep going. He helped me see through a different lens, a new perspective.
We have a heavenly Father who sees through a different lens, beyond our present circumstances to where we can be. Though outwardly we may be perishing, He knows that He is renewing us day after day. If we just hold on, God will give us the strength to get through the tough times to where we are destined to be.
Wherever you are today, whatever you may be going through, your Father God wants you to know that you can trust Him. He will never give up on you! He is with you every step of the way.
He is greater than any mountain in your way, greater than any enemy or circumstance that you will ever face. He is greater than everything!
