Setting Forth the Truth Plainly
2 Corinthians 4:2, 5
“…by setting forth the truth plainly we commend ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God…we do not preach ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord…”
The transforming power of the gospel does not come through our persuasive personal life stories, but through the clear, unvarnished truth of the gospel presented in the power and anointing of the Holy Spirit. The truth of the gospel will be supported by the convicting work of God’s Spirit in exposing sin, righteousness and judgment. When the focus of our preaching is on the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ as Lord, we are centered on gospel preaching. The Holy Spirit’s work in convicting men’s consciences of their need of Christ is the key as we lift up the story of the gospel.
Jesus, may you be lifted up in my life and preaching so that others may be drawn to you.
