Leaves of Healing
Luke 21:29-31
“Look at the fig tree and all the trees. When they sprout leaves, you can see for yourselves and know that summer is near. Even so, when you see these things happening, you know that the kingdom of God is near.”
Revelation 22:2
“On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.”
One of the important confirmations that we are near to the return of Jesus, is the sprouting of leaves on the fig tree (Israel) and all the trees (the nations). Leaves represent the aspirations and potential of the tree. They receive sunlight and convert energy into cell reproduction. The Arab spring has seen the most recent sprouting of leaves in a region of the world. Every people group is looking for life and striving for autonomy and their place in the community of nations. Since the Second World War, there has been an unprecedented “sprouting of leaves” around the world. Yet Jesus tells us that this cry for life and fulfillment of dreams will only be realized when the nations enter his eternal kingdom and find their life in him. It is the tree of life whose leaves are for the healing of the nations. Life and healing for every culture and people group is found in Jesus Christ alone.
Lord Jesus, come! The nations desperately need your healing and the life that only you can bring. We look to you alone, Lord Jesus.
