Who Does God Say I Am?

DAY 5 OF 6

God’s Labels

Have you heard the story of Zacchaeus? It’s a great example of us, sinners, being invited to Jesus’ party. If you don’t know the story, Zacchaeus’ job gave him a bad reputation. He was basically labeled as a lowlife, sinner, and thief. Ouch.

Have you ever thought of yourself with a painful label? Maybe something like: bad, ugly, dumb, loser? Did you give yourself that label or did someone else? And what kind of label do you think God gives you?

So what are we supposed to do with these labels? Who are we really? And most importantly, what does God call us?

Watch this video and see if you get some answers.

Ask yourself: What labels have been given to you by the world? What labels have been given to you by God?

Challenge yourself: Think about the “invited” label given to you by God. Everyone around you has that label, too. How can you treat others when you know they’re invited to God’s love, too? This week, who can you talk to about God’s great love for them?

Pray: Lord, thank You for the labels You have given me. Thank You for inviting me to Your party. Thank You for sending Your Son so that I could be forgiven. Help me to remember the labels You give me and reject the hurtful, false ones the world gives. In Jesus’ name, amen.
