MISSION TRIP PREPARATION: DAY THREE
We have reached our last day of preparation and will start our 5-day MISSION TRIP tomorrow!
We’ve seen how to “Be NICER” and “BLESS others”, and now it’s time to put them into action.
Acting on the opportunities that God will provide – whether this means listening, doing something, or just spending time with someone – requires that we are ready for this. So, if you’ve got a big deadline or project due date coming up, maybe consider a slight delay until that has passed.
Your MISSION TRIP will require some extra time from you here and there. Since our commitment is to do our best at work, we can’t forgo our work obligations just because of our MISSION TRIP activities. Doing that would violate both the “I” and “E” of being “NICER” at work, wouldn’t it?
Therefore, be sure you’ve got your calendar and work list as cleaned up as they can be.
Not sure how to do that? Check the advice of Proverbs 16:3 and ask for God’s help.
With that done, take time to reflect on your personal testimony. If asked, could you easily say what it means to be a Christ-follower and why you chose to do that?
It’s quite likely that you won’t be going into that level of detail in your first MISSION TRIP, so don’t panic – but do be ready, just as the Bible says in 1 Peter 3:15.
Lastly, remember that the MISSION TRIP is an act of obedience and service to God. There’s no need for you to set any goals on how many people to talk to. In fact, it’s best to start with a focus on just 1 or 2 people – you can always repeat the experience for others later.
So… no numerical goals, and no specific objectives of conversion, prayer or even sharing the gospel.
In this MISSION TRIP, our focus is doing like Jesus did – to build relationship and show kindness to others. We then trust God to open the door to the next steps as and when He chooses.
With this background, spend time in prayer to see to whom God would have you reach out. Don’t come to God with a list – let Him bring people to you instead.
Once you’ve heard from God, involve your prayer partner(s) to keep praying.
Pray that you might spot the right opportunities, step out in faith at the right time, and touch someone’s life with kindness and concern that is helpful to them.
Pray that all of this would lead to an opportunity for that person to see something of the Kingdom of God – that you might plant a seed in their life so they may one day be drawn to God.
And, as you pray, be sure to listen, because God will be speaking to you.
May God bless your MISSION TRIP!
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, I’m excited about this MISSION TRIP, but maybe still a little nervous. Guide me in my efforts, and let my insights and actions on this flow from your Holy Spirit. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen
ACTIONS
Pray that God will give you the names of those co-workers that He wants you to reach. And pray that it would become clear to you on how to reach them effectively and appropriately.
Ask your prayer partner to pray also. Share what God is saying with each other.
