MISSION TRIP PREPARATION: DAY TWO
With the word “NICER” as a guideline to our character, we now bring in a second keyword to help guide how we might live out our faith.
For this, we use the 5-letter acronym “BLESS” to remind us that we are to BLESS others™ as part of being a Christian at our work
If you’re able, watch the video above and then read the short devotional below.
As the video explained, the five letters in the word “BLESS” present a 5-step approach for how to live out your Christian faith at work:
B = Begin with prayer
L = Listen & Look for opportunities
E = Exercise obedience
S = See everyone in God’s image
S = Serve others
As before, each of these principles are based on teachings in the Bible, and are summarized in today’s readings.
Taken together, these principles give us a step-by-step approach to follow God’s desire for us to “BLESS” others at our work.
As additional preparation for your MISSION TRIP, write the words “BLESS others” at the top of a second sticky note, with the letter-by-letter guide below that. Include the Bible reference from today’s readings too.
Now, post this note beside the one for the word “NICER”, so you can easily see them both throughout your working day.
Then, reflect on the 10 concepts behind these two words as you go through your day – maybe focusing on a couple of letters in the word “NICER” in the morning, and then a couple from the word “BLESS” in the afternoon.
Again, pay special attention to any areas that you know you’re not too good at, and pray for God to strengthen you there.
The better we do in following the principles behind “NICER” and “BLESS”, the more effective our MISSION TRIP will be.
So, be sure to be honest about where you’re weakest, and seek God’s power to help you there.
Lastly, if you haven’t completed the study plan for the guideword “BLESS” yet, then consider delaying your MISSION TRIP by a week while you go see what God has for you there. Details on the study plan are provided at the bottom of this devotional.
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, I am excited to go on this MISSION TRIP for your Kingdom. Help me to see where I most need your help to be “NICER” and “BLESS” others, and then strengthen me there. To your glory. Amen
ACTIONS
Do the “homework” of writing out the words “BLESS others” and the meaning behind each letter on a sticky note. Post it next to the “Be NICER” sticky note in your workspace.
Spend 1-2 minutes on the meaning behind each letter in the words “NICER” and “BLESS”. Rank yourself from 1-10 on each one. Then pray for God’s help on any with a lower score.
