SHAME OFF YOUنموونە
Day 5.
WEIGHT WATCHES
Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.”
—Matthew 11:28 [NLT]
Shame is an agonising and, at times, an unbearable weight. Shame is burdensome and relentlessly heavy. Shame is the extra and unnecessary baggage we carry throughout life, and it's utterly exhausting.
Spend time reflecting on the ways shame has recently weighed you down. How has the weight of shame impacted your:
1. Faith
2. Mental health
3. Sleep
4. Relationships
5. Work or study
6. Confidence
7. Joy
FOR THOUGHT AND CONTEMPLATION
Once you feel still in God’s presence, read Matthew 11:28-30 from The Message translation slowly and reflectively a couple of times.
Read with the expectation that God will speak to you and guide your thoughts.
"Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to Me. Get away with Me and you will recover your life. I'll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with Me and work with Me – watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won't lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with Me and you will learn to live freely and lightly."
Which word or phrase speaks deeply into your soul? Why?
The Bible provides us with a remarkable and relevant prayer language. To finish your time of meditation, turn Matthew 11:28-30 into intimate conversation with God. This is an ancient spiritual practice called lectio divina [sacred reading].
