A Thankful Heartنموونە
IN EVERYTHING GIVE THANKS
The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in Him, and I am helped; therefore my heart greatly rejoices, and with my song I will praise Him. Psalm 28:7
While I was out jogging one morning, the sun broke through the clouds, turning them deep crimson. As I continued along the farm road, I began to think of all the good things God has given me. It made my heart glad, and I realized that when we begin to think of what we have, we truly understand how much it is.
I was thankful for eyes to see the beautiful morning; ears to hear the birdsong; and a family at home – my wife, children, and grandchildren. My wife loves me and is faithful to me. My children love the Lord and have a relationship with Him.
My heart was so grateful for all these things; and then I also remembered that my name is written in the Lamb’s Book of Life, that Jesus is my Savior, and that eternity awaits me. I have such peace in my heart – something money can’t buy – and I sang to the Lord all the way home.
Later, as I sat at my desk, I thought of those who didn’t see the sunrise, whose thoughts are dark and negative, and whose health is affected by their unhappy outlook on life. This often results in physical manifestations such as ulcers, migraines, and high blood pressure. Why should they suffer so, when relief comes from a simple change of heart?
Cultivating a positive, thankful heart affects yourself and others. God smiles at our endeavors when we enjoy His world, the work of our hands, and a real relationship with Jesus.
Lord, unleash a flood of thankfulness in my life. I cannot count the ways You’ve blessed me. Amen.
